When I spoke last week about the importance of including a link, I finished off by saying if anyone had questions, to get in touch. I didn’t expect to get as many responses as I did. After chatting with a heap of people, one question kept coming up:

Should I use pictures, and if I do, what kind?

In our industry, there’s nothing like using real images. We’re visual people, and when we look at a business, we start to identify who they are by the images they use.

It’s always tempting not to pay for photos or to grab something “free” from Google. I see examples of this every day, even from people working in the same field as us.

Let’s take this image, for example:

Example 1.png

If you’re like me and spend time looking at stock online, chances are you’ve seen this at least once.

A quick Google Image search showed it was an Adobe stock photo. The issue is that because this image isn’t owned by the businesses using it, there’s no control over who else uses it. I also have my suspicions it’s not even an Aussie image.

For example, it’s been used by the USDA to talk about cattle and bison diseases. It also appeared in an article about a beef safety study and, back in 2022, in a piece on whey proteins. Is that really the sort of people you want your business associated with?

If you’re going to use images, and you should, either take them yourself or, if you need to buy them, go through someone like Agrishots. That way you’re clear on the licensing, and you know you’re using Australian images (which is another conversation entirely).

That’s how you make your business stand out — not someone else’s.

As always if you have any questions feel free to give me a shout on 0407 589 309 or greg@onthebox.com.au

Cheers
