Rodney and Kylie Gorton are the minds behind Clever Gate Co. Rodney is the inventor of the Clever Gate, an innovative, full-swing farm gate.

As fifth-generation cattle farmers, we transitioned from timber fence posts to concrete posts, as we found that timber posts were not lasting as long as they used to. It was time to embrace change and we settled on Australian Concrete Posts as a durable and quality replacement.

As we regularly graze cattle between paddocks, we needed to leave the connecting gate open. Standardly, swinging a gate off the end of a post meant that we had a gate protruding into the paddock and not being able to swing it back fully, out of the way of stock. This creates a problem where stock could get caught behind the gate, or they could bump the gate closed, disallowing the rest of the stock to move forward.

This presented an opportunity for an innovative, problem-solving solution.

With his farming can-do attitude and a fitting and machining background, Rodney took to the workshop and created the revolutionary, self-aligning, double-hinged farm gate to solve this problem.

When we talked to other farmers about our design, we were encouraged to bring it to market as there had never been a farm gate innovation like this available to purchase!
